Vestry Meetings Book 1820-1863

These are photographs of the Vestry Meetings Book from 1820-1863. The people running the Meetings were called Parish Constables and they mainly only documented when and where the Meetings were held and who attended them.

The first Meeting was held at the house of George Todhunter on the 3rd February 1820 but it was adjourned until Friday 4th February. The attendees were George Todhunter, Mr Walker, John Graham, John Bell, Mr Harris and John Wilson. At the Meeting held on the 4th February 1820 they appointed John Graham as Schoolmaster.  Subsequent Meetings were held at other Parish Constable's homes at either the Reading Rooms or the Parish School.

There is very limited documentation on any decisions made. The main yearly decisions were to appoint a Parish Surveyor whose jobs included; catching moles, pulling up the carts, keeping the roads and gutters clean and pinfolding any cattle if they were found wandering the streets into the Cattle Pound.
